Living in Kansas we see wheat being harvested quite often but today was the first time we had seen corn being harvested. This is the field on Hydraulic at the end of 82nd street. You can see the corn coming out the spout - it was quite impressive to both Dennis and I. We stopped and took pictures and the farmer waved - fun living in the country.

After pictures
The trailer is finished. Well mostly finished. But it is looking much much better inside and out. Saturday Dennis and brother Danny worked on the skirting and today Dennis and I hung the dining room curtains and finished up some cleaning. Last weekend I painted the dining room yellow - right over the wallpaper. Bad idea and not a great yellow but three coats later it looks almost ok. :) I think I will give it another coat someday but not right away. I think it is almost ready for us to go down and relax and enjoy the place.
Well for some reason Blogger won't let me upload pictures on this post so will try another way.

Blacktop Nationals
A new car show came to Wichita this weekend - it had a good turn out, not as many cars as the car show in July at Automobilia but I think it will grow. The only problem I had with it was it started on Friday with them shutting down Douglas, McLean and 2nd street. I really think the weekend would have been enough - it made getting to work a real struggle for people. On Saturday night the cars drove down Douglas so we took lawn chairs and sat with David and Cathy Worley to watch the show. This car show was great for people with sore knees :) The cars came to me instead of me going to the cars. I took a ton of pictures but it was like taking pictures of triplets - a few came out. The cars were doing burn outs which made it hard to get a good shot but a few really came out well. It was a ton of fun and I hope they do it again next year.

Yarn
I love yarn. Admitting addiction is the first step. I had a bit of a crappy day today at work. It was one of those days where a little thing has annoyed me way beyond the point that it should. Thought about it all the way home and was in a very foul mood when I entered the house. Then I saw the package. Yarn. Not just yarn - this was special yarn. Scented. Yes - Scented 100% USA grown cotton yarn. The box smells heavenly - rose petals, lavender, aloe vera, vanilla, and camomille. I plan to make sachets for Christmas presents. Had thought about making them for co-workers but probably will be more selective after today on who will get them. :)
I would like to say it made me forget all about the day but no - not really. But it sure made my evening better.
August will soon be over and life will get better. And I won't have to deal with August school starting hectic crazy schedule again!!!

August ramblings
It has now been six weeks since my knee surgery and I am becoming more and more discouraged. I am still in pain every day and at times last week the pain was worse that it ever was before the surgery. I still have to ice it two or three times a day and I am very sick of it. The doctor said last Monday that I was doing "excellent". I told him and the nurse that I still had pain and they both said that was normal. My sister-in-law had the same surgery one week before mine and we have been a good support system for each other. She said this weekend that this last week was finally better so I am trying to be hopeful. The problem today is that it feels like it is locked up and that is a new pain. I am to return to the doctor the middle of September but if this keeps up, I am going sooner than that. I did research online and found forums where people were still in pain for months after the surgery. But I am very tired of starting every day with an ice pack and a pain pill.
I had a new experience today - I did a Visa training at a middle school and one of the teachers was deaf so a person did sign language as I spoke. That was a very strange feeling - I turned slightly so I couldn't see her as it was very distracting. I believe he is a special ed teacher for a deaf class.
I have been busy with knitting and crocheting. I was working on a sweater for Jimmy but it is a real pain to do and requires concentration so decided to make some afghans for the triplets at the same time. The afghans are very simple but pretty and go quickly. I have one done and another about 1/3 done. I started just before my surgery so that is good progress. Maranda had a pattern for a crocheted flower that was so cute so I got some thread and made one to see how it would turn out. It came out very cute - I had it at work today and it got a lot of compliments. Maranda stopped by my office and she liked it too so I will start on the next one.
In other random news, we are in love with Wendy's new Apple Chicken Walnut salads. Oh my goodness they are wonderful. We are also in love with Memphis Beat - a new show on one of the cable channels. I hope it is on again next year.
The trailer is coming along nicely. We have been going down the last couple of weekends cleaning. I made new curtains for the front room and painted the dining room this weekend. Dennis power washed the outside and the screens of the porch which made a huge difference. We found out we get a few tv stations so we will buy a tv for it. We got roller shades to replace the nasty miniblinds and a blue throw rug for the front room which made a huge difference. It looks much nicer now. The only remaining problem is the water - it has white pvc pipes for the water system and the water smells to high heaven. We put bleach through it and it has helped the cold water but the hot still is awful. Came up with a name for it - the Club House - as in Mickey MOUSE clubhouse. :) Found one more dead mouse this week and Dennis found more places to plug which hopefully he can do that this next weekend. Getting the old stuff out and putting in new has helped and getting it clean really helped. We also bought a couple of chairs for the screened porch and maybe someday we will actually just go down there and sit and relax.
Here are a couple of pictures - one is a spider on the outside of the trailer that is huge and the other is my table nicely decorated with birthday presents

Sunday Delight
Had a wonderful day today with Jimmy's family. Since the girls were born we usually go to their house to babysit or just to visit. It is easier on everyone but it is also a lot of fun to have them come here. Problem was that by the time we would get done with dinner it was nap time and they would have to leave. Today they came down and Jimmy and Maranda wanted to go shopping so they left after we ate. We played with the girls downstairs in the grandkid room and then I told them they all needed to lay down for a little while. They had never done that here so I didn't know what to expect but it went perfect. Izzy was in the garden room, Lily in the fish room and Audrey on the bottom bunk in the grandkid room. Dennis and I sat in the family room and watched the race and the girls slept for two hours.
After the girls woke up we had dessert - the grownups had key lime pie and the girls (except Lily) had chocolate ice cream. They loved it and we did too.
It was a great day.

Belleville county fair
Belleville bathroom
I just love the ladies restroom at the race track in Belleville - yep - those are shower curtains to give the best privacy. Sure they do - the poor gals that take children in with them are always the ones with the problems as the little kids think it is fun to play with the curtains as mommy is trying to do her business.
Belleville 2010
We love going to Belleville KS to the Highbank race track, world's fastest half mile dirt track. Each summer they host the annual midget nationals. Their web site states: Some of the nation's greatest drivers have tested their nerves at Belleville, including Parnelli Jones, A.J. Foyt, Tony Stewart, Ken Schrader, Stan Fox, Kasey Kahne, J.J. Yeley and Jeff Gordon.
The midget cars are small cars that go very fast around a small round track. A picture from a blimp or airplane shows the Belleville track as being a perfect circle. The phrase "turn right to go left" is a good explanation of how they drive. It is exciting and fast and if the track managers would speed the pace up it would be a perfect evening. But I think they want people to eat more food, drink more whatever and visit with their friends and neighbors. There was at least 30 minutes between the B feature and A feature (which is the last race). 30 minutes of nothing. There was also a long time between the heat races and the B Feature - basically the races could easily have been over by 10:00 but the A feature didn't even start until after 10:30. It is this way every year so I should stop being annoyed but am anyway. This year we got a hotel in Salina which is 1 1/4 hours from the track but we did not get back to the hotel until a quarter till 1. It was a nice Ramanda Inn but next year if we don't take the camper, we will try to get a room in Concordia which is much closer but they had no room at any of their inns by the time we figured out that my knee was good enough to go. As it turned out it really wasn't - was very swollen by the end of the night.
The race track is at the county fair - crafts, exhibits and GREAT food. We had the best hamburgers and fries before going to the race. Everyone knows everyone except us and I would like to say they are friendly to strangers but they really aren't. They would like for us to come, pay for food, race seats and t-shirts and just keep quiet and leave when it is over. That is fine with us. We enjoy ourselves every time we go. We aren't there to make new friends but to watch good races.
