Wings Game

Stacy's family came to town last weekend to go to the girl's birthday party on Sunday.  James Sr and I had discussed the Wings soccer team last fall and I got him a schedule of games and said we needed to go to one.  The last home game was Saturday night so I got us some great seats and we went after having a get together with Jimmy's family in the afternoon. 

The game was a lot of fun!  The Wings lost but we still had a really good time.  There were three middle school aged boys next to me that were very nice and one took a picture of us with my camera.

Birthday celebration

Going to throw in this post even though it will be out of order.  I have tons of pictures and things to say about this weekend with Stacy's family visiting but this is just a short and sweet little post.

Five years ago today I was at work and got a phone call from Jimmy.  Maranda was in the hospital but we thought she would be going home that day - the early labor signs were diminishing.  Instead the doctor had come in and said they would be doing a C-section in about an hour.  I burst into tears when he told me as it was way too early for the babies to be born - they weren't due until May!

So later that morning I met Audrey and Isabel (now Izzy) and at 2 lbs 9 oz they were the smallest babies I had ever seen.  Then I met Lily.   All one pound one ounce of her and I again burst into tears.  The nurse told me - this baby's lungs are every bit as strong as the other two and she is going to be just fine.

The nurse was right!  We had a grand day today celebrating their fifth birthday.  Mom and Dad got them up early and had a doughnut birthday breakfast with them before I got there at 6:30.  Then we watched a movie and grandpa came up so we could go to Red Robin for lunch.  The girls got a lot of attention with their crowns that had "5" in the middle.  The wait staff sang happy birthday and brought them big ice cream sundaes that Audrey and Izzy LOVED.  After lunch we went back to the house for Lily to have a feeding and they all three fell asleep for a little while.  Then we got them up and went to the zoo to enjoy this beautiful 70 degree weather.  After the zoo we met their folks at the house and opened presents and had cupcakes.

It was a wonderful day - one that I couldn't imagine would happen five years ago!

Game Day

Today the girl's preschool had an hour "game time" with the parents attending.  Maranda couldn't get away so I met Jimmy at the school as a substitute.  We played different games with the girls and then the class did a presentation.  Took me back to my paraprofessional days at Funston with the laminated sheets and hand made games.   The girls loved having us there and of course excelled at each game.  :) 

Twitter

I love Twitter - I am not totally addicted to Twitter but dang close.  :)  Last night was a perfect example of why I love Twitter so much.  We never watch the Grammy award show but with Whitney Houston passing away the day before I decided to watch it to see what all was said about her as I really loved her.  I had Twitter up (of course) and it made the show so much fun.  It was like watching a show with a huge room full of people all giving their opinion on each act and award.  There were some different opinions of course and I thought a few people might get in a little Twitter war but they refrained which I was glad.  I follow a lot of people that are in the Wichita area but also a few "famous" people and of course quite a few sports figures and Nascar people.  Everyone seemed to be watching the Grammys and Twitter just went crazy during some of the acts.  One act was just horrible and the tweets were hilarious - I truly was LOLing.   Some comments that were said I had problems figuring out because I am not "in" to the music scene so I had to Google things to understand.  For example - had no idea who Chris Brown was but found out he had beat up his girlfriend so most of the people on Twitter were adamant that he should not be on the show but one here in Wichita was a big fan.  She did settle down a little as I think she realized she was in the minority.  The singer Adele won most of the awards and she is really wonderful - everyone agreed to that!  I bought my granddaughter her CD for Christmas and now plan to buy one for myself. 

 My other favorite time to have Twitter is during sports events such as the K-State basketball or football games.  I follow quite a few K-State fans and we have a good time "yelling" at the tv together.   Makes wins more fun and losses a little easier to bear.

So if you are not on Twitter - I suggest you try it.  Not only is it fun, but it is also very informative.  I follow a lot of news twitter accounts and find out breaking news much quicker than I would otherwise.  Whatever your interests are you can find Twitter accounts for that interest and learn so much.  I follow yarn companies and get free patterns, actors,  NHRA World of Outlaw and NASCAR drivers, and local road condition accounts such as KDOT.   I have Twitter on my phone and my computer so I am never away from it.  If you are new to Twitter, you can find me and then see who all I follow and just "click" follow if you think you would be interested in their tweets too.    Sometimes you might follow someone and then decide they tweet too much or you don't like what they tweet - you can easily "unfollow" them.  You might also end up getting spam or porn followers, just hit block on their account or "block and report".  Often they are already inactive by the time you read the email saying they are following you.

Snow! for the girls!

Snow is so exciting when you are four, almost five!   When the girls got out of school today the first thing they asked was if they could play in the snow.  I said yes and as soon as we got home they got to play. They had a blast.  I helped them make a snowman and they were quite proud of it.  The little girl next door, Maggie who is 2 and her mother stopped by and visited so I got this picture.   I hope the snow lasts until tomorrow so we can play again. 

Snow!

We have had a very mild winter and I do not mind that at all.  I hate cold, snow, ice etc.  But Thursday afternoon we had a beautiful snow fall.  The bad thing was Wichita did not get any snow to speak of.  I wish so much the triplets had been at our house Thursday evening - they would have loved it.  It started snowing on me on my way home from their house.  I got to 63rd and K-15 and called Jimmy to see if it was snowing there and he said no - I told him I was in almost a white out.  Huge flakes and a lot of them.  The trees were covered as was the ground by the time we went to bed and in town they got very little.  It was quite the surprise as it was not forecast by any of the weathermen in town.

Friday Errands

Went to an estate sale today in nearby Douglas Kansas.  I always find estate sales interesting as you can learn so much about a person and yet it is also sad to see all their things they treasured with little price tags on them.  I hope I get rid of most of my stuff before I am gone to the great beyond - I don't want people walking around saying - "why in the world did she buy that?"  :)   This sale was one of a lady that was a quilter, liked woodworking and was a shopaholic.  Many items were brand new - still in the box.  And she also either liked to exercise or she liked to buy exercise equipment.  I think every type of exercise equipment from small to large was in that house.  We bought a few little things but I wonder what they will do with the hundreds of books that are still there - many woodworking or quilting books. 

After the sale we went to Hartman Arena to pick up soccer tickets for next weekend and then had lunch at Cracker Barrel.   Outside Cracker Barrel are rocking chairs for sale including this one - the first time I have seen it.  No, didn't buy it but was darn tempting. 

Cowl

The really fun thing about having a large yarn stash is that it is like Christmas when you are looking through the collection.  You find balls of yarn you completely forgot you bought.  Maybe if you are 30 this doesn't happen to you - perhaps it is the combination of a lot of yarn and bad memory. :)   Last Friday I found a pattern for a hat that I just HAVE to make - it is beautiful.  So I decided to see if I could find the right combination of yarn in my stash - I needed off white, blue and pink.  As I was looking for the yarn, I found two balls of this yarn and figured it would make a great cowl.  And it did.   The hat will wait - the cowl was a fast knit and Maranda wore it to work today.  (and I did find the right yarn for the hat)

Dentist trip

The triplets had a dentist appointment the other day and I was lucky enough to go with them and their daddy.  It was fun - the girls were excited all day to go.  Of course they kept saying it would be like seeing Hermie (the dentist on Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer show).  Daddy and I encouraged them to not ask the dentist if he was Hermie.  :)   The staff at the dentist office were so nice - you can tell they really like the girls and all visited with them and exclaimed on how much they had grown.  The dentist asked Audrey how old she was and she said four.  Then he asked Izzy how old she was and of course she said four.  He laughed and said funny how that worked.  So they both said "and Lily is four too!"  Lily was in the room with her daddy and I went to the room with Audrey and Izzy.  The one not in the chair sat on my lap and we watched.  They were very good and were thrilled with the prizes they received.  Audrey and Izzy both had the full fluoride treatments - which didn't look like much fun to me.  

Intrust Arena

Last weekend we went to the new Intrust Arena twice and had a great time each time.  First was Friday afternoon with Jimmy and his family to see the Disney Three Fairy Tales.  It was a really nice presentation and the girls just loved it.   The three plays were Snow White, Cinderella, and Beauty and the Beast.  The girls each wore a princess costume as did most of the little girls there.  I thought it would be fun to get a program of the event for the girls to look at afterwards but when I was told by the nice girl selling them that the program was $25!!!!  I changed my mind.   I bet it didn't even have a "lucky number" in it like the ones at the ball parks and dirt tracks.

Our second trip to the arena was on Sunday to use our free hockey tickets we got from a car dealership.  We were very lucky in that we realized they were vouchers and before the Disney play started Dennis went to the box office to exchange the vouchers for tickets.   Most people chose to wait until the night of the game to exchange their vouchers and the line was at least a block long when we got there.  We were able to skip the line and walk right in and had great seats.   Jimmy met us there and we had a really good time and plan to go again.
