The girls have a very cute playroom now that mommy and daddy made for them. Jimmy painted the walls purple and ripped up the old carpet. Maranda bought throw rugs and then made curtains to go with them. They have decals on the wall and most of their toys in there. The girls just love it. There is also a very old love seat (we had it when the kids were in high school) in the room that is perfect for a grown up to sit on and watch them play which is what I did on Monday. It is next to the window so I had a window ledge for my cup and it was very peaceful. I could have napped when the girls did but sat and knitted instead. The room is the former guest room next to the master bedroom upstairs. It has three windows so has lots of light and is very cheerful.

June ramblings
The school district in their infinite wisdom decided to save money and close all the buildings on Fridays during the summer to save on energy bills. So we are all working 7 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday with Friday off. The mornings are fine, a 30 minute lunch is not so great and the afternoons are excruciating long at times. I am a morning person so going in at 7 is not a big deal - I was often there at that time anyway. 30 minute lunch doesn't allow you to do anything so I have started packing my lunch every night as soon as I get home so it is ready to go in the morning. But by 4:30 I am ready to go home! Leaving at 5:30, get home at 6 - then fix supper seems to make for a very short evening. But I love having Fridays off even though I feel like it is Saturday most of the day. Last weekend I decided to make it a four day weekend and took off Monday. Maranda invited me to go with her and the girls to story time at their local library. It was such fun to watch the girls - they really loved the puppet show even if Maranda and I were not all that impressed. After storytime we stopped at McDonalds and got lunch then went to the house. Maranda went out with a friend and I stayed with the girls. We played in the playroom for awhile and then they took naps. It was a fun day.

Sky June 16 2010
I saw this cloud formation when I pulled out of the drive and happened to have my camera with me so I stopped in the street and took a picture. When you are leaving at 6:30 in the morning there isn't a lot of traffic. Of course on our street there never is much traffic. :)
River downtown benches
Wichita has had quite a bit of rain lately. There is actually a nice sidewalk in front of these benches that are almost under water. These are downtown behind Exploration Place
Campers next to us
Dennis thought this was a very interesting way to have your four wheelers loaded. The camper also had a deck on the front with two more four wheelers. These folks were in for some serious fun.
Dodge City campground
The Gunsmoke Campground was very nice - well kept, quite a few trees. Some were still pretty small but some were taller. It is for sale if anyone is interested in living in Dodge City.
rainbow at Dodge City
When this came out we thought for sure that it meant the rain was going to go away and the races would run.

Sleepless in Dodge city
This is the main reason we did not sleep well during the thunderstorm on Saturday night in Dodge City. This thing was right over our bed and every time the thunder rolled and the lightening struck we just knew that it was going to blow!

Bird picture
This bird landed in a tree in our back yard the other night during a thunderstorm. I used the zoom and pinhole feature on my camera to take this picture. For once I used the pinhole on purpose instead of by accident. :)
Dodge City - Camper
This is a picture of the kitchen in the camper. Finally got to use the pretty sunflower items that Laura got me.
Dodge City
This is Joey Saldana being interviewed - he thought he had the A feature won. He was just putting on a clinic, showing everyone how to drive that track. He was lapping people and looked like the sure winner. In the interview after the feature, you could tell he was shocked when Sammy passed him. He was a gentleman - said "he just beat me"
Dodge City - Sammy
This is Sammy Swindell being interviewed before the dash. Steve Kinser is the gray haired driver behind him. Steve is a 20 time champion but didn't have his mind on the race tonight. His wife insisted he come (or so they say) even thought she just went through a 11 hour open heart surgery on Tuesday. Steve's son Kraig also races in WoO.
Sammy hasn't won an A feature since 2006. He is 54 years old and my dad was a big fan of his. Last night with only a few laps left he came flying up and passed Joey Saldana for the lead. Joey got it back two laps later then Sammy passed him again and won. The crowd went wild!!!

Dodge City
I didn't get a very good picture of these cars but they are about the size of my Mazda and race on a smaller track that is inside the dirt track. They have 4 cylinder engines and were entertaining in that they ran each other off the track a lot. None of them liked being passed and would just boot the other one out of the way. Everyone was cheering and laughing during their races. The car in front, number 18 came in second place and we were so shocked when they interviewed the driver after the race. He was a 12 year old middle school student! He did a darn good job racing too. Should have gotten his autograph, he may be in NASCAR someday.
Dodge City
A shot of the crowd - tons of people there. We were glad the seats are all general admission as the two little ones behind us got on our nerves so we moved up a few rows. We ended up behind their dads and started to try to annoy them for payback but thought it not wise since they were quite a bit bigger than us. :)
Dodge City June 2010
We took advantage of the school district's four day work week and took the fifth wheel to Dodge City on Friday for the World of Outlaw races. This picture is the traditional four wide "salute to the fans" that the sprint cars do at the beginning of the A feature. We parked at the Gunsmoke Travel Park which is very nice. Has Wi Fi and cable tv, very clean, nice pull through site, playground and swimming pool and a security gate that closes at 10 each night and you have to have the code to open it. A little pricey at 30 a night but worth it. It is four miles from the racetrack. The races lived up to our expectations. The A-feature was fabulous. Can't believe how fast those little cars can go.
Girls and circus
Jimmy got this picture of the girls with the Ringling Brothers Circus train in the background. As you can see, Tiger goes everywhere with Lily.

Family at the circus
Hard to get three three year olds to sit and look at the camera at the same time. Izzy just was too busy. The crowd was very small which really surprised me but maybe it was because it was the last show.
Elephants
We not only saw the elephants at the circus, we saw them leaving the arena to go to the train. The new arena is right next to the train tracks so we saw the circus train.
Circus Magician
Sunday evening we went to the Ringling Brothers Circus with Jimmy and family. This circus was tons better than the Shrine Circus we went to a few months ago. The girls just loved it - I don't know which was more fun, watching the circus or watching their reactions. I wish I had a video of Lily when she saw the tigers. That was priceless. She has a stuff tiger that is her faithful companion so tigers are her favorite animals. All three girls really loved the zebras too. I think the grownups enjoyed the magic tricks the most as they were really good. I have no idea how they did some of these things. We had a really great evening and hope to go back again next year.
