Knitting and the Olympics

Birthday girls

The My Gym has a place to put the birthday "child" on and the guests sit in front and the adults gather to take pictures. Three little ones don't sit as easy where only one is supposed to sit but they managed. Lily was so cute - she put both her arms around her sisters since she was in the middle.

Three turn three

Three years ago when I first saw Audrey and Isabel in the NICU, I was amazed at how small they were but confident they would be ok. Then we saw Lily and at 1 lb 1 oz I broke down and cried. The nurse stood there and said - "let me tell you that her lungs are just as strong as her sisters and she is going to be just fine". I didn't believe her, but appreciated her comment. And now - three years later they are all three just fine and Lily is probably the biggest little bully of them all. She is sweet but ornery as tar. :) My folks use to say that dynamite comes in small packages and that sure describes Lily. They are all three so much fun and have such different personalities. They had a birthday party at My Gym on Saturday. They had a wonderful time as did the big kids.

George Strait Concert

Friday evening we attended our first event at the new Intrust Arena in Wichita. We saw Lee Ann Womack (I Hope You Dance) and Reba McEntire and George Strait. Our seats were not that great but the concert was wonderful. We parked .3 of a mile away at the Ketch parking lot and was supposed to pay $4 but no one was there to collect so we parked free. It was a short walk and made leaving after very easy. The new arena is very nice but the seats are really close together. We were comfortable but I think my son and son-in-law would have not enjoyed the seating at all. When someone needed to exit the row everyone had to stand up to let them go by. This happened many times throughout the concert - I wanted to say - people! if you have small bladders, stop drinking so much beer! We bought t-shirts and realized later that I spent less for the two t-shirts than the people next to us spent on beer that evening and I got to keep the shirts. We had a great time and very glad we went.

Jimmy's birthday

Had a great birthday with Jimmy on President's day - February 15. We went to lunch together then Dennis and I went to their house. Maranda went shopping, Jimmy and Dennis worked on house projects and I played with girls (after trying to get them to nap which didn't work with Audrey and Lily) Then we had cake and ice cream. This picture of Jimmy and Audrey I thought was too cute to not share.

Valentine 2010

Woke up this morning with my three little valentines which was fun. Jimmy and Maranda went to a concert in Lawrence KS last night so I watched the girls from noon Saturday until afternoon Sunday. We had such a good time. Izzy was so funny this morning - I went in to get them and she said "Grandma!! You here again?!" She was very shocked.

Jimmy and Maranda really enjoyed the concert and hung around after wards and met the band and got autographs. The band was Bela Fleck which I know nothing about but Jimmy got his picture taken with Bela Fleck so he was very pleased.

I am making good headway on my vest that I started last week and have started a couple of other projects just to keep things interesting. Jimmy wants a sweater so that will be next and I know there is a sweater that Laura wants that I need to start this summer. But there are also a couple of other vests I want to make for myself so need to hurry up and retire so I can spend more time knitting.

Maranda's sweater was given to her yesterday, only five months late but it fit and she appeared to love it. It was very cute on her, much cuter than in this picture.

New Year's Resolutions complete!

I feel as if I was successful in my New Year's Resolutions even though I did cheat just a little. I first resolved to finish my four on the needle projects before starting any new ones. That didn't work out when the my knitting group at work decided to make hats for soldiers. It would have been unpatriotic to not have made one. Then when I finished it, Dennis liked it so much I made one for him too. I also made a hat for Maranda earlier in January so I decided to adapt the resolution to say I would have the four projects done by Valentines day and I was successful! I will post a picture of one - which is the sweater I started last summer for Maranda. The other three projects I will post pictures of after February 22nd. That is the triplet's third birthday and the projects are for them. They have seen them since I tried them on them while working on them but their parents haven't seen them.

I took some vacation time this afternoon and came home to watch one of the Nascar races that was on. Dale did awful but Kasey Kahne won so that was fun.

Earlier this week I got the stitches out of my hand and started physical therapy. I have a set of exercises to do two or three times a day. They are pretty easy - can do them while driving down the road so maybe I will remember to do them. I want full use of this hand some day! Still have little strength and some pain but nothing bad.

My current knitting project is a vest for myself! It is beautiful yarn but the pattern is a bit boring. I ordered some yarn to make another project that will not be as boring so will soon have two going at one. Variety is the spice of knitting.

Weekly update

This last week has been very interesting. The Carpal Tunnel surgery went fine last Tuesday but then I woke up very dizzy and nauseated on Wednesday morning. I stayed home from work because there was no way I could drive. The doctor's office called mid-morning to see how I was doing and when I told them about the dizziness they suggested I stop taking the pain pills. I slept most of the morning and then just took Advil and was much better the rest of the day. I went to work Thursday until 2:15 when I went to the dentist for a crown. On the way home I stopped at Twist and bought yarn for Dennis gloves and myself a vest. I had already put in for Friday vacation as a reward for my rotten week. This was great timing as we had snow and they canceled school on Friday, of course I would have had to work but since I had vacation, I stayed home and knitted. We got very little snow but Wichita and north got quite a bit.

Saturday night we watched the best basketball game ever between KU and K-State - it could have ended better (KU won) but it was a nail bitter.

On Sunday the kids came down so we had a lot of fun with the girls. We took them to the basement for the first time and they thought the grand kids room was great.

I finished a knitted hat for a soldier and have started one for Dennis. I also finally got gauge for the vest I am making for me. I cast on last night for it and will start on the pattern tonight. It is from the Creative Knitting Magazine online digital magazine subscription, the March 2010 issue.

This coming week should be a little more boring. Which is probably good
